MMIWG2S Honouring and Awareness Day

0

The 3rd Annual Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman, Girls and Two-Spirit (MMIWG2S) Honouring and Awareness Day Pipe Ceremony and Feast at the Manitoba Legislative on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4TH, 2019 from 12:30PM to 2:30PM in honour of MMIWG2S and their beautiful families.

Later on in the day there is a candlelight vigil at the MMIWG2S Monument at the Forks at 6:30PM.

This day is about honouring families and survivors of MMIWG2S. It’s about bringing awareness to what is going on throughout Turtle Island (what we now call North America) and to bring people together for healing. The higher levels of violence experience by Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit folks is a direct effect of colonization. This is a day to reflect on our shared history and the ongoing impacts. Today is a call to action for all people who live on this land to end the violence and to hold vigil as a community to honour those lost and support the friends, families, and communities who have lost loved ones. A vigil can take many forms, from a moment of silence to a rally to a community feast. All that is important is that you take some time on or around October 4th to mark the day.
