Please join us in spreading the word about National Substance Use Awareness Week which runs from November 12-18.
National Addictions Awareness Week is an event held in November each year and highlights issues and solutions to help address alcohol and other drug-related harm. This year, we’re changing the conversation by switching the focus from the stigma of addiction to a discussion on substance use. We know that many of the harms associated with substance use are because of negative judgements, discrimination and criminalization. Many of us have people in our lives (including ourselves) who use drugs or alcohol. Rather than focus on addiction and harms, we want to show our love to people who use drugs. Let’s highlight what they are doing to reduce harms, keeping themselves and their communities safe, and reduce stigma.
There are several ways you can participate! Share posts on social media, participate or share the “I ♥ Someone Who Uses Drugs” campaign or plan an event of your very own! Check out the Manitoba Harm Reduction Network for local events and information on how to get involved.
