How much is birth control? Can you just come in and get it, or do you need an appointment?

Posted on 30. Nov, 2010 by admin in Birth Control

The great thing about Teen Clinics is that you do not need an appointment, just show up! You will get to talk to a nurse, and you can decide with the nurse how much you can afford to pay. They usually charge about $10 a pack, but if you can’t afford that they will still [...]

Can you get birth control without parental consent?

Posted on 29. Nov, 2010 by admin in Birth Control

Yes, just go to a Teen Klinic (no appointment necessary). You don’t need anyone’s consent, and you can get birth control counselling and free or low cost birth control (including FREE condoms!)

When are you supposed to start your period when you’re on the pill? It is normal not to get it right away?

Posted on 28. Nov, 2010 by admin in Birth Control

When someone is on the pill they take a hormonal pill every day for 21 days and then either a sugar pill (if they are using a 28 pack) or no pill (for a 21 pack) for seven days. Usually it takes a couple of days of not taking hormones until someone gets their period. [...]

If you are on the birth control pill and you take it a few hours late, will you get pregnant if you have sex during the month?

Posted on 27. Nov, 2010 by admin in Birth Control

There is no clear answer to this question because not all brands of birth control work the same. The instructions that come with the birth control pill pack are very detailed. They will explain what to do if you miss a pill, if you take a pill late, how the pill works, and what side [...]

Does the day after pill work for up to 4 days after?

Posted on 27. Nov, 2010 by admin in Birth Control

The Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP) is commonly known as the “day/morning after pill” and is the only birth control you can take after unprotected sex to try to prevent a pregnancy. ECP is most effective the sooner it is taken.  ECP can still be taken on the 4th and 5th day after sex, but its [...]

Why are there 7 pills in a birth control pack that are different than the others?

Posted on 26. Nov, 2010 by admin in Birth Control

If you are taking a 28 pack of birth control pills, the last 7 of the pack are sugar pills. These 7 pills remind you to continue to take a pill each day while at the same time giving your body a break from hormones for a week so that you get a period. When [...]

If you are on the pill, is there anything bad that can happen to you if you stop taking it?

Posted on 25. Nov, 2010 by admin in Birth Control

No, there are no dangers to stopping the pill. If you are experiencing some negative side effects you can also stop taking the pill and switch to another form of birth control. To discuss your choices of birth control, visit one of the teen clinics.

If you take the pill and get pregnant, what could happen?

Posted on 24. Nov, 2010 by admin in Birth Control

The birth control pill is 95‑99% effective when taken properly (this means taking the pill every day at the same time). There are a few things that can make the birth control pill less effective. If you forget to take pills or take them at different times of the day it will lessen the effectiveness. [...]

What is the deal with the birth control patch, the ring and Depo shot?

Posted on 24. Nov, 2010 by editor in Birth Control, FAQ

There is some great information about the birth control patch, the ring and depo shot here. The patch, ring and depo work in similar ways to the birth control pill. They have hormones that prevent the body from releasing eggs from the ovaries. If there are no eggs released, than a pregnancy can’t happen. The side [...]

Can you take birth control just to regulate your period?

Posted on 23. Nov, 2010 by admin in Birth Control

Yes, just because a woman is on the pill does not necessarily mean that she is using it for birth control reasons. Many women (especially younger women) have irregular menstrual cycles (periods) or bad cramps and pain during their menstrual cycle. What the birth control pill does is provide a constant level of hormone in [...]
