Are there any long term effects of hormonal birth control on fertility?

Posted on 21 November 2010 by admin

No hormonal method of birth control has been shown to affect a female’s long-term fertility. In other words, if someone was able to become pregnant before using the pill, they will still be able to become pregnant after using a hormonal method of birth control.  Sometimes it may take several months for a woman’s period to return to its natural state. It is common for someone who has been on the pill to have irregular periods anywhere from 6 months to one year after not taking the pill anymore. For women who have been using the needle (depo) it may take up to 18 months for their periods to return to their normal state.  However, even though the period is irregular, the person will still be ovulating, it just means they might not be able to predict when their next period will be.
